                  ASAS Meeting Updates

                  ASAS Meeting Updates

Our members have been incredibly good-natured and creative as we all dealt with the on-going COVID-19 global pandemic. We know everyone is thankful for the electronic resources we have available to stay in contact and to disseminate science, but no matter how wonderful the virtual space has become, our scientists are somewhat “desperate” for the personal networking events that set ASAS and animal scientists apart from other groups. As an organization and a field, we have a lifetime history of valuing personal interaction at global, national, regional and local levels. Consequently, ASAS is currently working to present our meetings in 2021 in both virtual and in-person formats, so hybrid meetings. Our goal for all meetings is have as much contact as safely possible in hybrid forms. If people are uncomfortable traveling, they will be able to tune into all events virtually, if they are ready to travel, the events will be structured to be as safe possible. As in 2020, as we launched our first all virtual meetings, we are asking our members to send us suggestions on how to run the new hybrid meetings well. We were proud of all of our members that came up with new and innovative ways to connect during the virtual meeting this year – now we need to do that for the hybrid format!

As of today, the 2021 ASAS portfolio includes the following meetings:

                  • ASAS Midwest Section: March 8-10, 2021 in Omaha, Nebraska
                  • ASAS Western Section: June 8-10, 2021 in Fort Collins, Colorado
                  • ASAS-CSAS-SSASAS Annual Meeting & Trade Show (please note the day of overlap with ADSA Annual Meeting on July 14): July 14-18, 2021 in Louisville, Kentucky
                  • International Congress on Farm Animal Endocrinology (ICFAE): July 18-19, 2021 in Louisville, Kentucky
                  • ASAS-Gentech China Swine Meeting: October 2021 in Shanghai, China

In order to ensure that meeting attendees have the safest possible meeting, ASAS is doing the following at all of our meetings in 2021:

                  • Following WHO and CDC social distancing guidelines
                  • Increasing beyond industry standards, any and all cleaning practices
                  • If needed, limiting attendance
                  • Adding technology for touchless onsite check in
                  • Requiring and providing masks to be worn at all events
                  • Having hand sanitizer available throughout meeting spaces
                  • Modifying food events to protect attendees and food service personal

To continually improve our virtual platforms for the meetings in 2021, we are:

                  • Working with CadmiumCD to incorporate any and all suggestions following last year’s virtual meeting
                  • Working on more ways to encourage live interaction in the virtual space
                  • Enhancing poster and 12-minute talk presentation within the CadmiumCD system

No matter how scientists attend or get together, our goal is to provide, safe, effective high-quality meetings that foster scientific exchange. As you are planning for 2021, please contact us with questions or concerns about or to improve our 2021 “Hybrid” Meetings.
